Dress Your Age

Women in their 40's and 50's should not be dressing like teenagers! What bothers me most is seeing a middle aged woman wearing short mini skirts, "booty shorts", skinny pleather jeans, sheer, see-through shirts displaying their pushup, wonder bra and what ever else you may find in the Juniors department of a store. Even if they have the body to pull it off, it's apparent they are trying to be younger then they are. This is especially disturbing when I see it in the church. I'm not saying we should all wear high neck collars and wear skirts down to our ankles, but rather approach what we wear with adult wisdom. This also does not mean we shouldn't be fashionable. We can still be fashionable but in a more age appropriate manner. The key is to find what types of clothes you feel comfortable and confident in. For me, I have always loved accessories, especially hats and scarves which I am rediscovering in my midlife. Also, as difficult as it may be to swallow your pride, wear the correct size for your body and stop squeezing into clothes that are too small. I know, most of us have gained that midlife weight, but truthfully you will look slimmer if you wear the correct size. The clothes will lay better on your body instead of showing the rolls and cellulite we are trying to squeeze into clothes that are too small. Some of the store that I like to shop in nowadays are J.Jill, SteinMart and Coldwater Creek. There are other stores I like but I have a limited budget. If you are like me and like scarves or just recently joined the trend of scarves these days, I found a great way to display all my scarves for better visibility.Find a sturdy hanger, preferably wood are metal. Recycle or go to the dollar store for a set of shower curtain rings (full circle type). Put the shower curtain rings on the horizontal bar of your hanger where you would normally hang a pair of pants. Then just thread your scarves through the shower curtain loop. Now you can see all your scarves and keep them hanging near your clothes for easy matching and accessorizing.Scarf Hanger IMG_0464
