Is It Over Yet?

Six days and counting! I'm not sure who is more excited about this school year being near over; teachers, students or moms. Yes, this mom is ready for the school year to be finished!Normally I want my children to remain engaged in school or other activities versus the laziness of doing nothing over the summer. For some reason, the end of this year has been filled with numerous, sometimes unnecessary, activities; such as, award ceremonies, band concerts, festivals, meetings and more. The senior activities the latter half of the year had my head spinning!I try to be positive and encouraging but when the student (my children), don't even want to participate in these end of year activities, I silently under my breath sigh with relief. For example, my senior was being honored at an academic awards ceremony last night but refused to go saying it was stupid and useless. A part of me agrees and is thankful that my children didn't grow up feeling entitled, like most millennials, that recognition and awards are a given and necessary to prove their worth.I'm also counting down the days when I can stop packing lunches in the morning for my children. The year starts out great and exciting with meal planning and prepping. But seriously, how many days can one eat a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch? If I'm tired of making it, I'm sure my son is tired of eating it too. There have been more days lately in which I forgot to grocery shop and I'm digging through my pantry to find pack-able items for lunch-mom fail! I also use to cook a full spread for breakfast for my kids every morning with bacon, eggs, sausage and homemade pancakes or waffles. Now toaster waffles and microwave meals suffice!Besides, everyone knows nothing gets accomplished the last 2 weeks of school, they are simply fulfilling the required hours. State testing was done last month and end of course testing was done the beginning of May, so let's just all agree to not count these last 6 days and call it quits so we can all enjoy the lazy days of summer already!I can't wait to be able to sleep in an extra 45 minutes, not make lunches or breakfast and have evenings free of drawn out band concerts, lengthy meetings, athletic games or useless awards. I'm not sure I will know what to do with my free time. I think a nap is in order for sure! And maybe I can catch up on my reading and project list-maybe. Summer's almost here and my kid's laid back mentality just might rub off on me too.
